Home Remodeling in Denver: Closet Remodeling Tips

December 13, 2017

There are many options when it comes to home remodeling in Denver. Instead of remodeling a bathroom or the kitchen, many homeowners choose to upgrade their master suite by remodeling the master closet. Everyone dreams of having a luxurious closet that looks as if it belongs on the pages of an interior design magazine. But, how can you create your dream closet? Follow these tips:

Place Rods At Various Heights

Someone who has never designed a closet before may not realize the importance of placing clothing rods at various heights throughout the space. The clothing rods that are lower to the ground can be used to hang shorts and pants that are folded over a hanger. Clothing rods that are placed at a higher height are perfect for long dresses, suits, or any other items that you want to keep wrinkle-free. Think about the clothing that you own so you know how many clothing rods you need and the heights that will work best for your wardrobe.

Keep Everything Visible

It’s much easier to get dressed in a hurry when you can clearly see everything that you own. Keep this in mind when designing the layout of your closet. Instead of keeping everything hidden inside drawers and cabinets, consider transparent storage solutions. Use clear storage bins and glass-fronted drawers and doors so everything stays organized, yet remains visible.

Light it Right

No one leaves the house without inspecting their clothing in a closet mirror. But, if the lighting in the closet isn’t right, it will be difficult to see what you’re wearing and how it looks. To prevent this problem, do not place the lighting fixtures behind the spot that you normally stand in to look in the mirror. If the light is coming from behind you, it will cast a shadow and make it difficult for you to see your reflection. Ideally, the light fixture should be between your spot and the mirror so it casts light over you.

Remember the Flooring

Homeowners often get so caught up in the details of the closet that they forget to think about the floor. The flooring is probably the last thing that people will pay attention to when they walk into a closet, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored. You will be standing on this floor with bare feet multiple times per day, so don’t choose a flooring material that will become unbearably cold in the winter. For closets, the best choices are carpet, wood, and vinyl. Learn more about closet flooring and lighting options.
